The current dominance of Belgian models seems to have come parallel with the increasing recognition being afforded to Belgian designers with mostly unpronounceable names.

An Oost

Stats: 86/61/89  Height: 178cm   DOB: Feb 13,1979

A lot of people don't seem to "get" An Oost. "What's so great about her", they moan. Unfortunately I can't argue against them, An's appeal is something that's hard to put into words. Seeing is believing, and if at first you don't believe, keep staring until you do. Some might place her in the "Lesbian Chic" category along with models like Mayana, Omyra and Eleonora Bose, but she lacks the toughness of those models.

Anne is one of the wierdest looking people I've ever seen, but once (or if) you get over her oddness you realize that she actually is quite beautiful. She also has a very sweet voice. Whilst on the subject of oddness, I must add that there's something not quite right about her body, and her walk is lopsided - her left arm flaps about alot whilst her right is relatively stationary. She also has a large gap between her two front upper teeth. Yet all these flaws just seem to add to her appeal though - in spite of, or because of, her flaws we love her all the more.

Most of the time I've seen her backstage she's had an interesting expression on her face. She doesn't seem as ambitious and focused as some of the other models, which is refreshing.

Anouck Lepere

Stats: 80/58/84  Height: 174cm   DOB: February 13, 1979

Anouck is the most palatable appearance-wise of the Belgian quartet so popular with designers (An Oost, Delfine and Hannelore being the other 3). Interestingly, she was the only one to make it into the Victoria's Secret 02 parade. She was spotted in 2000 after being encouraged to participate in the shows put on by fashion students at the university she attended. Anouck was an instant hit, rapidly gaining editorial spots in most of the major fashion mags.

I think her head is too big for her body, or is it her body is too small for her head? Her measurements are tiny yet she doesn't look skinny. Indeed I was surprised at how awesome she looks in a swimsuit. Anouck's one of the few highly educated models out there - she was studying architecture before she took up modeling. She dabbles in jewelry design, mainly earrings that attach to the ear rather than the usual pierced variety.

 

Aurelie Claudel

Stats: 85/56/84  Height: 177cm   DOB: August 7, 1980

I was unable to find any personal information on Aurelie, so I'll have to work from memory. She started modeling early on, did international catwalk shows from about 1997 to 2000, though in 2001 I only saw her in the London shows. That was the year in which Aurelie became widely recognized, due to appearances in the Pirelli Calendar, Sports Illustrated and Victoria's Secret (both their catalogues and the televised parade). Over the past year she's modeled for editorials in many English language fashion mags. I've seen her in adverts for Calvin Klein's Truth scent and Daks, a clothing line.

In an TV interview I saw several years ago she mentioned that she wanted to work with horses after she had finished modeling She's quite smart and highly fluent in English. Her body is quite distinct - very narrow at the waist and hips with marked muscle tone.
