Gisele Bundchen

Gisele is the 21st century's first supermodel. She mightn't be the nicest, but she's the sexiest model on the planet, and apparently the model American women most want to look like. It's hard to flip through a fashion magazine without seeing Ms Bundchen being featured in multiple ads. Since 2001 she has only made occasional catwalk appearances, mainly for labels she has contracts with, like Dior, D&G and Victoria's Secret.

She started modeling when she was 14 and placed second in the international Elite model contest. In 1998 her catwalk career started and a year later she was a modeling superstar. It wasn't until around 2001 that she became a household name in the US though. The popularity of small dogs among models and fashionistas was a trend initiated by Gisele, her own mutt being a Yorkshire Terrier called Vida. Vida even appears in a few editorial shots with Gisele.

Gisele's breasts understandably receive a lot of attention, but after all these years I'm still not sure if they're a product of Mother Nature or Mr Surgeon. She hasn't done any full nudes that I'm aware of, and even then a good silicone job is hard to pick from just a single photograph.

Jeisa Chiminazzo

Jeisa has been a favourite of mine since I first noticed her during some of the Brazilian 2001/02 shows. For me her appeal is akin to that of Laetitia Casta. Often when fully clothed she doesn't look so great compared to the skinnier, more elegantly shaped models, but those models look very second rate compared to Jeisa when you put them in a swimsuit. Her face is attractive rather than beautiful, with an abundance of freckles and a fringe of lovely raven coloured hair which almost engulfs her eyes. Poor girl, must be too impoverished to afford a hair cut :) I guess every model needs a gimmick, though unlike most models with a fringe style (eg Karolina Kurkova) Jeisa's fringe is slightly curved and irregular rather than linear. If you look at older pictures of her you'll notice that she's lost a bit of weight over the past 2 years, but she still retains a certain voluptuousness.

Jeisa has mixed Germanic and Italian ancestry. The Italian bit is a no-brainer given her surname. Her modeling career started in 1998 when she was 13. She join a local modeling school was was soon referred to an agency in Sao Paolo. There wasn't any lengthy apprenticeship - she appeared in the shows of some big name Milanese designers in 1999. Unfortunately her career seems to have plateaued - since then she's been a regular at international Fashion Weeks but walked mainly for lesser-known designers. There's very few shots of her in the more prestigious fashion magazines, but the situation seems to be improving. If she lucky she might end up a Victoria's Secret regular.

She seems to be quite shy for a model. She currently lives in New York with her mother, and in the same apartment block as Isabeli Fontana, another big-name Brazilian model (well actually Isabeli ranks significantly higher than Jeisa).

Katerina Scola  

Katerina did some modelling in 2000, disappeared for a year, then returned again in 2002. The leftmost two scans are from her earlier phase, the rightmost two are recent. It's mainly been the Parisian shows (both haute couture and PaP) that I've seen her in, though she made a strong showing in some of the wonderful Sao Paulo 2003 SS parades.

Nice body structure - but no hard data on her yet.

 

 

Michelle Alves

Stats: 84/63/90  Height: 179cm   DOB: Sept 10,1978

Michelle seems to have alternated between studying and modeling over the past six years. She even studied engineering for a year at university. I'm not sure how she started modeling but in 1996 she was one of the winners of the Elite Look competition in Brazil.

For some reason the fashion industry has suddenly become interested in her. She opened the 2003 Atelier Versace show, and has been booked for several editorials in prestigious fashion magazine over the last few months. She has a good "cosmetics" face, and looks rather nice in a bikini I'm sure you'd agree.
